Casa Rojo Clon 98 2023
Castile and León, Spain (75 cL)
A direct and energetic expression of Tinta Fina, where dark fruit, freshness and silky tannins create an unmistakably Ribera del Duero character.
With Clon 98, Casa Rojo goes back to the essentials: allowing Tempranillo, known locally as Tinta Fina, to express itself with as little artifice as possible. The nose shows intense aromas of ripe dark fruit — blackberry and cassis — accompanied by hints of liquorice and aromatic herbs that underline its Castilian character. On the palate, the wine is taut, fresh and precise. Its well-defined structure is carried by silky tannins that provide depth without weighing the wine down, while vibrant freshness keeps the fruit focused through to a long, elegant finish. Naturally suited to the table, it is an excellent match for roast lamb, grilled beef ribs, slow-cooked meat dishes or gently spiced stews.
Casa Rojo was built around a simple idea: to explore the distinctive identities of Spain’s great wine regions without confining them to a traditional view of winemaking. Founded by José Luis Gómez and Laura Rojo, the project combines a vigneron spirit with a contemporary approach, working across the Atlantic, Ribera del Duero and Mediterranean territories. In Ribera del Duero, the winery focuses on Tinta Fina, with Clon 98 offering a particularly direct and unfiltered interpretation of the variety.
